Historic District Commission
Framingham’s Historic District Commission (HDC) is an appointed board of residents that oversees the preservation and stewardship of buildings in the city’s designated Local Historic Districts. The HDC reviews proposed changes to designated properties and works with property owners to balance the needs of modern living with the historic integrity of their buildings and surrounding neighborhood contexts.

Duties
The Historic District Commission (HDC) preserves the character of Local Historic Districts in Framingham through a review/advisory process. HDC's purview oversees proposed external changes to designated properties that are visible in a public way.
Member Skillset
The seven full members of the HDC are required to have the following qualifications:
- a representative of the Framingham History Center
- an architect registered to practice in MA
- a licensed real estate agent
- a lawyer
- a land owner resident from a historic district
- two at-large members
- 5 alternate members can be drawn from these qualifying areas, including an urban planner, architectural historian, landscape architect, licensed general contractor, or any other citizen with a demonstrated commitment to historic preservation.
Membership Responsibilities
Member responsibilities include:
- Attend monthly meetings
- Discuss proposed changes with property owners prior to the formal application process
- Reviewing and voting on applications for proposed changes to properties
- Providing input on broader issues related to historic preservation in Framingham, including the creation of new Local Historic Districts.

Meeting dates/occurrence: Second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room 2 of the Memorial Building (150 Concord Street, Framingham, MA 01702).
