The 5-member Cable Advisory Committee is appointed by the Mayor to negotiate franchise agreements with the City’s three cable television operators, RCN, Comcast, and Verizon, and to ensure that the provisions of those contracts are implemented. Satellite television providers are not required to have a license.
The Cable Advisory Committee also acts as an ombudsman for Framingham citizens on unresolved cable TV billing errors and persistent repair problems. Per federal and state regulations, the Cable Advisory Committee has jurisdiction only over cable TV services. We do not have the authority to intercede on problems involving Internet access, voice telephone service, or satellite TV.
The Committee acts as a liaison between cable TV subscribers and their cable TV companies, and provides feedback, and acts in an advisory capacity to the Mayor for issues that may require the direct intervention of the city administration. Committee members serve 3-year terms.
