For the 3rd Consecutive Year, City of Framingham To Raise Disability Flag in July

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham will raise the Disability Flag in a very brief public ceremony on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 6 p.m. outside the Memorial Building, 150 Concord Street.

This year marks the third annual raising of the flag in honor of Disability Awareness Month. The City’s new ADA Coordinator David Correia will raise the flag.

The event is hosted by the Framingham Disability Commission, and elected officials and community members are encouraged to attend and show their support for disability inclusion and awareness.

The flag, which will be raised during the ceremony, was designed by Framingham resident Rob Levine.

It was commissioned by the Framingham Disability Commission in 2022 to honor the late Karen Foran Dempsey, a passionate disability rights advocate and co-founder of the Commission.

“As a city, we are committed to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and respect for people of all abilities,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “Raising the Disability Pride Flag is an important symbol of that commitment.”

In addition to the flag-raising ceremony, the Commission is planning a community event on July 21 at the main branch of the Framingham Public Library, featuring a film screening and discussion to continue the conversation around disability rights and visibility. More details to be released after Independence Day.
