Framingham To Participating in National Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 26

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham, in collaboration with the Framingham Health Department, Framingham Medical Reserve Corps, and the Framingham Police Department, will participate in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will take place in the parking lot of the Memorial Building, located at 150 Concord Street. It is a drive-thru style event.

This initiative, part of a nationwide effort led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, while also educating the public about the potential for misuse and environmental harm.

What You Can Bring

Residents are encouraged to bring:

  • Unused or expired prescription medications
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Pills, capsules, tablets, and patches

Needles, sharps, thermometers, or inhalers will NOT be accepted.

Why Safe Disposal Matters

Proper disposal of medications is essential for both public safety and environmental protection. Flushing drugs down the toilet or sink may seem convenient, but it can contaminate water systems and harm aquatic life. Likewise, throwing medications in the trash without precautions can lead to accidental poisoning or misuse by children, pets, or others.

“Removing unused medications from the home reduces the risk of accidental poisoning and prevents the potential for misuse,” said Framingham Health Director William. “It’s a simple step that helps create a safer and healthier home environment.”

Creating Healthier Homes & Safer Communities

By participating in Drug Take Back Day, residents are taking proactive steps to:

  • Reduce the risk of accidental drug ingestion
  • Prevent prescription drug misuse and diversion
  • Support environmental sustainability by avoiding water contamination

“Our goal is to make it easy for people to do the right thing with leftover medications,” said Framingham Health Director Murphy.

About National Drug Take Back Day

Sponsored by the DEA, National Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a unified opportunity for communities to safely dispose of medications. Since its inception, the program has successfully collected and safely destroyed millions of pounds of prescription drugs across the country.

Join us on April 26 to help keep your home safer and contribute to a healthier Framingham.
