City Seeks Three Volunteers For Framingham Cable Advisory Committee

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham is seeking residents to serve on the Framingham Cable Advisory Committee.

Three seats are currently vacant, and the City encourages interested residents to apply. No resume or cover letter is required to apply. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

The five-member Cable Advisory Committee is appointed by the Mayor and is responsible for negotiating and overseeing franchise agreements with the City’s three cable television providers: Comcast, RCN, and Verizon.

The Committee ensures that the terms of these contracts are properly implemented and serves as an advisory body to the Mayor on cable television matters that may require City involvement. Satellite television providers are not subject to local licensing and are not under the Committee’s jurisdiction.

In addition, the Cable Advisory Committee acts as an ombudsman for Framingham residents experiencing unresolved cable television billing errors or persistent repair issues, after reasonable efforts have been made to resolve concerns directly with the cable provider.

Under federal and state regulations, the Committee’s authority is limited to cable television services and does not extend to internet access, voice telephone service, or satellite television.

Committee members serve three-year terms. The Committee presently includes Cynthia Villanueva and Michael Cunningham, whose terms expire in June 2028.

Residents interested in consumer advocacy, municipal oversight, and telecommunications policy are encouraged to apply.

Members must be Framingham residents.

Individuals who apply by the deadline will be considered for the available openings. The Mayor will make the final selections and nominate three individuals. These nominations are then submitted to the City Council, the City’s legislative body, which may approve or reject them. If the City Council takes no action within 30 days of the nominations, the nominees are automatically approved.
