City of Framingham Drive-Thru Drug Take Back Event on October 25

.

FRAMINGHAM - Residents can rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs this Saturday, October 25, when the Framingham Health Department, the Framingham Police Department, and the Medical Reserve Corps will host a Drug Take Back Day, via a free drive-through service.

The event will be held in the municipal parking lot at 1 William Welch Way from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program aims to prevent medication abuse and theft by accepting pills, patches, liquids, and ointments for proper disposal.

No questions will be asked regarding ownership of the items, and participants will remain anonymous.

Saturday’s event is part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a nationwide initiative that provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription medications, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of these drugs.

Since its inception in 2010, the DEA’s Take Back program has collected and safely disposed of nearly 17 million pounds of medications nationwide.

Residents who cannot attend the event can also safely dispose of unwanted medications year-round at the Framingham Health Department, located in the lobby of 188 Concord Street (next to the Memorial Building), during regular working hours.
