Framingham Public Works: Hydrant Flushing on Edgell Road This Week

FRAMINGHAM - Due to paving work scheduled for later this week on Edgell Road, hydrant flushing originally planned for the week of September 29 will now take place this week (week of September 22) on Edgell Road only.

Flushing will occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

For additional information visit - Hydrant Flushing Program | City of Framingham, MA Official Website

The rest of the program will begin the week of September 29, as announced earlier this month.

Benefits of Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant flushing is an essential part of maintaining the water distribution system. It helps improve drinking water quality by removing naturally occurring minerals and sediment that can build up in pipes.

 Possible Short-Term Impacts

Temporary reductions in water pressure

Discolored water caused by dissolved iron

While the discoloration may look unpleasant, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states it does not pose a health risk. The Water Division will monitor water quality and pressure throughout the process to minimize potential impacts.

Precautions for Customers

Most customers do not need to take special precautions during flushing.

However, hospitals, medical facilities, and businesses that depend on water for manufacturing or cleaning should closely monitor their water supply during this period.

Contact Information: For questions or concerns, please contact the City of Framingham Water Division at 508-532-6050, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
