City of Framingham Now Accepting Applications for Its Mayoral Summer Internship Program

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham is excited to announce the launch of the Mayor's Summer Internship Program, a 10-week paid internship opportunity aimed at providing talented college students and recent graduates with valuable experience in local government.

The program is designed to build a diverse talent pipeline and offers participants a hands-on experience in administrative and project-based roles within various city departments.

The internship will run from June 9, 2025, to August 15, 2025, providing 11 students with the opportunity to work in departments such as Police, Public Health, Library,  Planning and Community Development, Human Resources, Finance, Parks & Recreation, Pubic Works Engineering, and two positions in Communications/Social Media.

  • April 25, 2025 – Deadline to apply
  • May 13, 2025 – Final notifications sent to accepted interns
  • June 9, 2025 – Internship start date

“This program provides an exciting opportunity for students to immerse themselves in local government work and gain experience that will help them as they begin their careers,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity to the next generation of leaders and to welcome diverse voices into the municipal workforce. Our interns will learn the ins and outs of city operations.”

The program also features a unique cohort model with Lunch & Learn sessions designed to help students develop career skills, including resume building, time management, and networking. Interns will have the chance to engage with city leaders, including a lunch with Mayor Sisitsky, and will receive mentoring throughout the summer.

Jesse Edwards, the City’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer, oversees the summer internship program.

Edwards emphasized the program’s commitment to inclusivity: “We are proud to create opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds to gain valuable experience in government,” said Edwards. “Our goal is to foster a workforce that reflects the rich diversity of Framingham, and we encourage students from all backgrounds to apply, especially first-generation college students, students with disabilities, and multilingual students."

The program is open to highly motivated college students currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program, or recent May 2025 graduates.

Preference will be given to Framingham residents, as well as students from Framingham State University and Mass Bay Community College, and underrepresented populations.

Applicants must submit a completed application, including a resume and a short 200-word essay.
