Framingham Mayor Requests Council To Vote To Re-Name Callahan Center Room After Late Mark Goldman

FRAMINGHAM - Mayor Charlie Sisitsky has recommended to the Framingham City Council that the multi-purpose room at the Callahan Center be named in honor of the late Mark Goldman, a dedicated public servant and tireless community advocate.

The request is on the City Council Tuesday, March 18, 2025 agenda.

Mark Goldman, who passed away on September 12, 2021, at the age of 74, was a passionate volunteer whose contributions to the Framingham community were far-reaching. A longtime leader in both youth sports and senior services, Goldman made a lasting impact on the lives of Framingham residents, particularly through his work with the Callahan Center.

As President of the Friends of the Callahan Center and Vice Chair of the Framingham Council on Aging at the time of his death, Goldman was instrumental in enhancing the programs and services that support the city's senior population. His leadership and advocacy were vital in improving the Callahan Center, making it a key resource for senior residents.

Goldman’s dedication to Framingham also extended to his work in youth sports, particularly girls' soccer. He played a pivotal role in the creation of the "Field of Dreams Soccer Complex" and was deeply involved in various recreational initiatives through the Framingham Parks & Recreation Commission.

In addition to his community service, Goldman’s commitment to the Callahan Center’s senior programming was unwavering. His efforts to support the Continuing Connections program, which serves seniors with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, earned him great pride and recognition. Even during his own battle with illness, Goldman continued advocating for the Callahan Center, reaching out to supporters from his hospital bed.

"Naming the multi-purpose room at the Callahan Center in Mark’s honor would be a fitting tribute to a man whose leadership, kindness, and selflessness have left an indelible mark on our community," said Mayor Sisitsky. "His legacy of service to Framingham, particularly to our senior citizens, continues to inspire us all."

A majority vote is needed of the City Council to name the room after Goldman
