City of Framingham Offering Free Memory Care Items for Senior Citizens

FRAMINGHAM -The City of Framingham, with the support of a generous grant from the Alzheimer’s Association of America, is offering complimentary memory care items to residents whose family members are impacted by memory loss.

The City of Framingham will distribute free products and resources to support seniors who have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease or have a loved one with these conditions.

Seniors, who are experiencing memory loss unrelated to Alzheimer’s, are also eligible for the giveaway.

Caregivers residing in Framingham, or those with a parent living in Framingham who is affected, are also eligible.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to offer these valuable resources to our community,” said Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “Memory loss can be challenging, and this program is designed to provide assistance and comfort to families in Framingham. By providing these free items and making them available for borrowing, we are taking meaningful steps to support residents as they care for their loved ones."

To receive items, individuals can contact the Callahan Center at 508-532-5980

The selection of items for the giveaway was conducted by the City’s Grants Manager and staff from the Mayor’s office. The giveaway includes a variety of resources such as puzzles, games, books, phones, timed pill boxes, arts and crafts, and more. These items are designed to enhance the quality of life for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

Caregivers and loved ones may pick up items on Tuesday, March 18 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. or make other arrangements with social worker Lisa Ushkurnis at lau@framinghamma.gov.

In addition to the giveaway, the City has placed one of each memory care item in the Library of Things, located at both the main Framingham Public Library and the Christa McAuliffe Library. This initiative ensures that all community members have the opportunity to borrow and utilize these resources.
