Team Framingham 2025 Runner & Charity Applications Now Available

FRAMINGHAM – Want to run the Boston Marathon in 2025?

Team Framingham 2025 applications are now available.

Team Framingham is seeking applications from organizations and runners. More details on the criteria are below.

Team Framingham was formed for the 2014 Boston Marathon to formalize the process for distributing the entries provided to the City of Framingham by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), the organizers of the annual Boston Marathon.

A city-appointed Steering Committee oversees the Team Framingham program.

The Steering Committee will allocate all the invitational entries for the 2025 Boston Marathon provided to Framingham through the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Host Community Program via random selection (lottery).

The Steering Committee established the criteria for runner and charity applicants and will publish these guidelines as part of the runner and charity applications.

Following an application process, a finite number of Framingham-focused 501(c)(3) organizations will be selected by random drawing.

Runners selected in the lottery will be required to choose one of the selected organizations to benefit from their fundraising.

A few modifications have been made to the application criteria for runners and charities for 2025.

Changed last year and still in place this year are the following eligibility criteria:

  • Employees of the City of Framingham subcontractors who have been on the Framingham account for at least one year are eligible to apply. This opens the application pool to Fire Department EMTs and school department van and bus drivers, among others.
  • Graduates of Framingham High and Keefe Tech who are 18 to 25 years old and no longer residing in Framingham are eligible to apply.
  • Retirees of service to the City of Framingham or the Framingham Public Schools with a minimum of 5 years of service and residents of Massachusetts are eligible to apply. There is no longer a 10-year cap on applying post-retirement.

Runners selected in the lottery will commit to a fundraising goal of $5,000 and a minimum obligation of $2,500 for 2025. The fundraising goal and minimum obligation may be increased from year to year.

A runner who fails to reach the minimum fundraising obligation will not be eligible to participate in the lottery in the future.

To share the fundraising of our Team Framingham runners with a broader swath of local charities, any charity that was selected during the previous year’s program (2024) will not be eligible for selection for the current year.

The Team Framingham Steering Committee will encourage the runners selected to connect with a marathon training mentor and participate in periodic team meetings that focus on training and fundraising techniques.

The application period for the April 2025 Boston Marathon, which is open to both charities and runners, closes on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
