Milling Scheduled For Cedar Street Week of April 8

FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Department of Public Works contractor will continue to mill Cedar Street the week of April 8.

Newport Construction started grinding the existing asphalt on the street last week, but didn’t finish due to the rain, sleet, and snow.

Due to the milling, there will be detours and a one-way traffic pattern on Cedar Street, starting from Winthrop Street beginning after 9 a.m., until the project ends. During this work, there will be no parking on Cedar Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Milling, or grinding, involved removing about 2 inches of the existing asphalt. This is done before final paving.

Framingham Highway Department said the milling sequence is Cedar Street, Charles Street, Pine Street, Avon Street, Highland Street, and Clafflin.

This is a continuation of the Cedar Street neighborhood improvement project.

New sidewalks also are planned for Cedar Street, said Framingham DPW Director Bob Lewis.

Last year, about 1,900 feet of water main on Cedar Street, 650 feet of water main on Charles Street, and 500 feet of water main on Avon Street were upgraded.

The entire Cedar Street project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer of 2024.

Question can be directed to DPW at 508-532-5600.
