Framingham City Council Chair Announces Subcommittee Assignments

 

FRAMINGHAM - City Council Chair George P. King, Jr. has announced the City Council’s subcommittee assignments following the Council’s reorganization. 

The subcommittees allow the Council to conduct detailed review and oversight of key policy areas before matters advance to the full Council.

City Council Leadership
 Chair: George P. King, Jr.
 Vice Chair: Janet Leombruno

Appointments Subcommittee
 Members: Janet Leombruno, Noval Alexander, Christine A. Long
 This three-member subcommittee reviews, when assigned by the full Council or Council Chair, mayoral appointments subject to Council oversight and forwards recommendations to the full Council for approval or rejection.

Finance Subcommittee
 Chair: Philip R. Ottaviani, Jr.
 Vice Chair: Michael P. Cannon
 Members: George P. King, Jr., Leora Mallach, John A. Stefanini
 This five-member subcommittee considers budget-related matters, including the creation of new positions, changes to the employee classification plan, and any issues involving increases to City employee headcount.

Rules, Ordinances and Ethics Subcommittee
 Members: Tracey Bryant, John A. Stefanini, Mary Kate Feeney
 This subcommittee reviews Council rules, orders, and ethics matters, and conducts final review of all ordinances proposed by Council subcommittees.

Economic Development, Public Health, Education, Welfare, and Veterans Subcommittee
 Members: Noval Alexander, Michael P. Cannon, Tracey Bryant
 This subcommittee reviews matters related to economic development, public health, welfare, cultural affairs, and Veterans affairs, including all proposals for Tax Increment Financing.

Planning and Zoning Subcommittee
 Members: Christine Long, Janet Leombruno, Philip R. Ottaviani, Jr.
 This subcommittee reviews proposed amendments to zoning ordinances and maps, land use and planning matters, special permits, and related issues.

Environment and Sustainability Subcommittee
 Members: Leora Mallach, Brandon F. Ward, Mary Kate Feeney
 This subcommittee addresses environmental and sustainability issues including air, land, and water pollution; waste disposal and land reclamation; recycling; energy efficiency; and the impact of development on residents’ quality of life.

Committee of the Whole
 Members: All City Councilors
 This forum allows in-depth discussion and preliminary consideration of complex matters referred by the Council, including ordinances, resolutions, policy initiatives, the municipal budget, and strategic planning. Unless otherwise voted, meetings on the fifth Tuesday of a month are designated as Committee of the Whole meetings.
