City Advertising For Multiple Volunteers for Framingham Historic District Commission

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham is seeking applicants for the Framingham Historic District Commission (HDC).

The Historic District Commission primarily focuses on preserving the character of Local Historic Districts in Framingham through a review/advisory process. HDC's purview oversees proposed external changes to designated properties that are visible in a public way. The HDC reviews proposed changes to designated properties and works with property owners to balance the needs of modern living with the historic integrity of their buildings and surrounding neighborhood contexts.

There are 3 openings for member seats and 3 openings for alternates.

In order to serve as a member, applicants must have one of the following qualifications: a representative of the Framingham History Center, an architect registered to practice in MA, a licensed real estate agent, a lawyer, a land owner resident from a historic district, or two at-large members. In order to serve as an alternate member, they must meet any of the following qualifications: an urban planner, architectural historian, landscape architect, licensed general contractor, or any other citizen with a demonstrated commitment to historic preservation.

Current members are welcome to reapply, but are not guaranteed re-appointment.

The deadline to apply is July 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

To apply, visit the Boards and Commissions page on the City’s website and fill out the form at this link - Form Center • Boards, Committees, Commission, Officers Appli

The Mayor will review all applications submitted by the deadline and make nominations to the City Council. No resume or cover letter is required to apply for this position.

The City Council, as the legislative branch of City Government, has 30 days to approve or reject the Mayor’s nominations.
