City Advertising For Volunteers for the Sustainability Committee

 

FRAMINGHAM  - The City of Framingham is searching for applicants for the 9-member Sustainability Committee. 

The Framingham Sustainability Committee focuses on the environmental impacts, challenges, and opportunities in Framingham, along with advising the Mayor and the Sustainability Coordinator on recommendations to promote greater sustainability and resiliency. 

The Sustainability Committee is also required to submit an written recommendation report to the Mayor, Sustainability Coordinator, Energy Task Force, City Council, and the School Committee by October 1, annually, on any zoning bylaw changes and suggested programs and policies. 

The Committee also will publish their assessment of the state of the city in the area of Environmental and Sustainability initiatives along with their progress towards their short and long term goals. 

There are three seats open, including a youth member seat. All appointees are volunteers, and receive no compensation.

Members will serve for 3 years and should have a passion for sustainability and the environment. 

One member of the Committee must be between the ages of 16 and 25. 

Applicants are highly encouraged to have backgrounds in environmental justice, environmental law, environmental education, corporate responsibility, environmental science, energy management, renewable energy, environmental health and safety, marketing and communications, green building, land use planning, water conservation, stormwater management, waste reduction, climate resiliency planning, economics, or other related fields.

Current Commission members are encouraged to re-apply but are not guaranteed re-appointment. 

 

The deadline to apply is Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

The Mayor will review the applications submitted by the deadline, and then make nominations to the City Council. 

 

No resume or cover letter is required to apply for this position. 

 

The City Council, as the legislative division of City Government, has 30 days to approve or reject the Mayor’s nominations.
