Framingham Human Relations Commission Hosts Immigrant Rights & Resources Night Thursday, May 22

FRAMINGHAM - The Framingham Human Relations Commission is hosting an Immigrant Rights & Resources Night on Thursday, May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. via Zoom Webinar.

This important event aims to provide valuable information and resources for immigrants living in Framingham and surrounding areas, addressing key issues such as legal rights, family preparedness, student safety, and mental health support.

The evening will feature presentations from local experts and organizations, offering insights on how to navigate immigration challenges and access community support services. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Individuals may join the webinar anonymously and do not have to have their video on while attending.

Event highlights:

  • Introduction by City of Framingham Diversity Equity & Inclusion Officer Jesse Edwards
  • Presentation by MetroWest Legal Services on immediate legal rights, what to do if approached by ICE, family preparedness, securing legal representation, and planning strategies.
  • Framingham Superintendent of School Bob Tremblay and Keefe Technical Superintendent of Schools Jon Evans will provide a joint presentation on student safety, mental health support, handling immigration enforcement near schools, and community support initiatives.
  • BRACE Executive Director Liliane Costa will discuss community-based support services for immigrants.
  • Massachusetts Immigrant Resource Association will discuss advocacy, empowerment, and how to support immigrant communities.
  • Question & Answer session

“We are excited to bring together a range of community leaders and organizations to provide important resources and support for our immigrant neighbors,” said Human Relations Commissioner Matt Brown. “At a time when immigrant communities face unprecedented challenges, it's crucial that we come together to provide education, resources, and advocacy. This event is a step toward ensuring that everyone in Framingham feels safe, supported, and empowered.”

"As a city, it is vital that we come together to support and uplift every member of our community—especially those who may be most vulnerable. Immigrants contribute to the fabric of Framingham, and this event is an opportunity to provide them with the information, resources, and reassurance they need to navigate complex challenges. We are committed to ensuring that all of our residents feel safe, valued, and empowered. I encourage everyone to join us for this important conversation, and to continue working toward a more inclusive and supportive Framingham for all,” said DEI Officer Edwards.
