Framingham Public Library Introduces New Contactless Pickup Service at the Callahan Center

FRAMINGHAM - The Framingham Public Library is excited to announce a new, convenient, and contactless way to pick up your holds!

Starting April 1, patrons will be able to pick up their library materials using a new booklocker located at the Callahan Center for senior citizens.

“Reading is ageless,” said Framingham Library Director Dawn Dellasanta. “Our book locker makes it easier for seniors to explore new stories and rediscover old favorites at the Callahan Center.”

“This innovative service provides greater flexibility and convenience, allowing library users to access their holds anytime the Callahan center on Union Avenue is open,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.

Library staff, especially Head of Technology Experience David J. DiGuardia and Emerging Technology Specialist Teresa Gotal, worked fervently to get the book locker set up and ready for use.

“We’re thrilled to offer a technology-driven solution that enhances accessibility and brings library services directly to our community in a new, user-friendly way,” said DiGuardia.

The book locker was originally situated at SMOC but saw limited usage.

The Mayor's office suggested relocating it to the Callahan Center. The library collaborated with Randy Aylsworth, the Director of Elder Services, to facilitate this transition.

How Does It Work?

  1. Place Items on Hold: Log into your Minuteman account and select “Framingham/Locker” as your pickup location.
  2. Wait for Notification: You will receive an email, text, or phone call when your items are ready for pickup.
  3. Pick Up Your Items: Head to the lockers located inside the Callahan Center on Union Avenue in the kitchen area during the senior center’s regular hours. Scan your library card (or manually enter your number using the keypad) and follow the on-screen instructions to retrieve your items.

Please Note: Items such as puzzles, games, program kits, hotspots, and Library of Things are not available for locker pickup.

As the locker service becomes increasingly popular, the library kindly asks that patrons retrieve their items as soon as possible after receiving notification. This will ensure more community members have access to this new, convenient service.
