City of Framingham To Hold September 11 Remembrance Ceremony
FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham will host a remembrance ceremony for the 21st anniversary of those who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11, 2001, including the 17 people with ties to Framingham.
The ceremony will be held at the September 11th Living Memorial located within Cushing Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
The event will include solemn remarks, a reading of the names on the memorial, a prayer offering, and a presentation of the colors by the Framingham Fire and Police Department Color and Honor Guards.
The 30-minute ceremony is a rain or shine event. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will relocate to the Cushing Memorial Chapel. The public is encouraged to attend.
Twenty years ago on Sept.11, four airplanes were hijacked to carry out suicide attacks against the U.S., with two of the planes flying into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
A third plane hit the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Seventeen individuals with ties to Framingham were killed on September 11. Their names are now on a memorial in Cushing Memorial Park. Their names are Barbara Keating, Linda George, John Wenckus, Lisa Fenn Gordenstein, Meta Fuller Waller, Neilie Heffernan Casey, Paige Farley Hackel, Robin Kaplan, Tara Shea Creamer, Todd Hill, Susan Mackay, Christine Barbuto, Judith Larocque, Laura Lee Morabito, Herbert Homer, Charlie Murphy and Darin Pontell.
