Framingham Mayor Names Dellasanta Library Director
FRAMINGHAM - In 2012, Dawn Dellasanta started as an adult page with the Framingham Public Library.
Today, June 4, 2024, Mayor Charlie Sisitsky officially appointed Dellasanta as Director.
Last month, the 12-member elected Library Trustees voted unanimously to recommend Dellasanta to the Mayor. Under the City’s Charter, the Mayor names the Library Director, with no review from the City Council.
In January, Mayor Sisitsky named Assistant Framingham Public Library Director Dawn Dellasanta as Interim Library Director, after the resignation of Director Lena Kilburn.
“Dawn has been exceptional as the Interim Director and I look forward to her continued success,” said Mayor Sisitsky. “I received dozens of letters from Library staff with glowing recommendations of Dawn, along with the unanimous recommendation from the elected Library Trustees.”
“As Interim Director, Dawn has improved staff morale, managed a time sensitive building project, and ensured that patrons were well-served,” said Library Trustees Chair Ruth Winett. “Dellasanta has managed several emergencies calmly and efficiently, drawing upon the support of other Department Heads, as well as City Officials. The Trustees look forward to a long and successful collaboration with Ms. Dellasanta.”
“Our library is full of incredible librarians who come to work every day ready to change the world one library card at a time. To be granted the privilege to serve this community and lead the staff and the institution that I love so much is an honor beyond any that I have ever received,” said Dellasanta. “The little GenX latchkey kid inside me, who went to the public library after school every day, is beyond delighted that I still get to go to the public library every day. I am grateful to the Board of Trustees, to Mayor Sisitsky, and especially to the librarians here at Framingham Public Library. I can’t wait to see what we do together.”
Dellasanta has worked in almost every Framingham Public Library department over the last dozen years.
A United States Marine, honorably discharged in 1999, Dellasanta has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University and completed her Masters in Library and Information Science, with a concentration in technology from Simmons University in 2023.
She was named Assistant Director of the Framingham Public Libraries in 2023, and served as Head of Branch Experience from 2021-23. She served as Head of Library Technology from 2018-2022.
As head of the branch experience, Dellasanta served as liaison between the library and community organizations, fostering partnerships and promoting library services.
As head of library technologies, she led the research, evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, which included the adoption of borrowing WiFi hotspots and the circulation of Chromebooks for library patrons.
As assistant library director, Dellasanta managed the day-to-day operations of the library, including scheduling, payroll, working with the Library Trustees, and numerous stakeholders and community partners. She has supervised and managed staff, and work on professional development opportunities.
