City of Framingham Launches Hometown Heroes Program to Honor Veterans

FRAMINGHAM – Mayor Charlie Sisitsky and the City of Framingham is launching a Hometown Heroes Banner program to recognize military personnel with ties to the City of Framingham.

“This is wonderful way for the City to honor those men and women who served in the military,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.  “The program will honor Veterans who have selflessly served our country, but the program also will serve as a symbol of gratitude and respect for their courage and dedication to our country, and as a tribute to their unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms.”

Each banner will have a photo of a man or woman who served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, or Navy, along with their name, military branch and their rank.

The program will be managed by the Framingham Veterans Council, the Framingham Veterans Department and members of the municipal government.

The City is now accepting applications for the banners to be hung in the City of Framingham between June and Veterans Day in November.

Eligibility

To qualify, honorees must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have served in the military
  • Must live in Framingham now or have a strong tie to the City of Framingham

The City of Framingham is capping the number of Hometown Heroes Banner program at 30 Veterans for 2024.

Applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.

Decisions will be made by conflict - World War I Veterans will take priority over Vietnam War or Gulf War Veterans.

The deadline to submit is Wednesday, May 15 at 11:59 p.m. The application will not work after that time.

Individuals not selected in 2024 will be given first priority for new banners in 2025.

Applications MUST include a photo of the Veteran in his or her military uniform. Photos are required for each banner.

There is no cost for the banner for Veterans, thanks to generous donation to the City.
