Framingham Cultural Council Calling for Artists to Submit Art for the Cochituate Rail Trail

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Cultural Council announces its 2025 Call for Art, inviting artists to explore the theme “Moving.”

This theme emphasizes transition, relocation, and the physicality of space and the body. Artists are encouraged to interpret movement through walking, biking, or connecting with others along the Cochituate Rail Trail. The theme also invites exploration of emotional resonance, considering how art and nature can move us toward calmness, joy, or reflection.

The Art on the Trails outdoor exhibition, titled A.R.T. on the C.R.T. (Art on the Cochituate Rail Trail), will be installed along the rail trail beginning May 1, 2026, and will remain on view through September 1, 2026.

Artists are invited to submit existing works or proposals for site-specific installations that reflect the theme of movement. “Moving” can refer to physical motion, emotional impact, or the ways people connect with nature and one another along the trail.

The submission deadline is December 31, 2025. Artists may submit up to three works or proposals under a single application and fee. Submissions should include:

  • Artist information, including name, contact details, and Framingham residency or work status
  • Artwork details, including title, dimensions, medium/materials, and whether the work is existing or a new site-specific proposal
  • A description of how each artwork represents the theme “Moving”
  • Image attachments such as drawings, renderings, or photographs
  • Artists are responsible for their own installation on May 1, 2026, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Art must be suitable for all audiences and installed safely in the natural environment, using supports like straps or ropes without harming trees or other natural features.
  • Priority consideration is given to artists living or working in Framingham.
  • A maximum of 10 artists will be selected, and accepted artists will receive a $500 stipend.
  • The submission fee of $25 is non-refundable.

By submitting, artists acknowledge that the Framingham Cultural Council, Friends of the Framingham Trails, and the City of Framingham assume no liability for artwork during the exhibition.
