City of Framingham Launches Curbside Compost Pilot Program

Framingham - The City of Framingham is excited to announce a new curbside composting pilot program in partnership with Black Earth Compost. The program is available to eligible households with four units or fewer, making it easier than ever for residents to reduce waste and help the environment.

Join the curbside composting pilot by subscribing to Black Earth Compost and receive one free curbside bin and a roll of liner bags, while supplies last.

The pilot program is the result of ongoing work by the City of Framingham’s Mayoral Composting Task Force, created by executive order in October 2023 and chaired by Leora Mallach. The task force has been collaborating with City officials to expand composting options for residents. Learn more about the task force here.

“This program is another step forward in making Framingham a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable community,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “By expanding composting access, we’re giving residents an easy way to keep food waste out of the landfill, save money in the long run, and protect our environment for future generations.”

Black Earth Compost offers four curbside collection options:

  • Weekly Collection: $80.99 every six months
  • Weekly Collection: $14.99 per month
  • Every Other Week Collection: $63.99 every six months
  • Every Other Week Collection: $11.99 per month

After subscribing, residents will receive a voucher to bring to the Framingham Recycle Center to pick up their free bin. Collection days will be assigned by Black Earth Compost.

Each year, subscribers will also receive a voucher for one free bag of Black Earth Compost.

Framingham currently has over 400 Black Earth Compost subscribers.

Once participation reaches 900 households, the cost of service will decrease for all Framingham subscribers.

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).
