Framingham Fire Rescues Swimmer, 17, From Pond

 

FRAMINGHAM –Framingham Fire rescued a swimmer at Learned Pond this afternoon, July 20.

At 3:02 p.m. p.m. this afternoon, the Framingham Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a missing swimmer at Learned Pond, said Framingham Fire Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Sullivan.

The individual, a 17-year-old male, was last seen in the water around 3 p.m., said the Deputy Fire Chief Sullivan.

Framingham Fire initiated an immediate response, deploying a full water rescue operation. Responding units included Ambulance 1, Rescue 2, Dive Rescue 1, Engine 5, Engine 3, Boat 3, Boat 5, Ladder 3, and Rescue 1. Framingham Police also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, surface swimmers were deployed and a coordinated search pattern began, said Deputy Chief Sullivan.

The District 4 Dive Team was activated, and one diver who was on duty entered the water quickly to assist in the search, said Deputy Chief Sullivan.

Approximately 10 minutes into the operation, the missing swimmer was located about 30 yards from the beach, said Deputy Chief Sullivan.

The male teen, 17, was not breathing when brought to the surface. Advanced Life Support was initiated at the scene, and the patient was transported by ambulance to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, said the Deputy Fire Chief.

UPDATED: Deputy Parks & Recreation Director said there were four staffers on duty, but no lifeguards on duty.
