Framingham DPW Announces Sewer Force Main Lining Project 

 

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham is announcing a critical infrastructure project to improve a section of the sewer force main connected to the Worcester Road Sewer Pump Station. Beginning Monday, July 21, construction crews will begin lining approximately 500 linear feet of 16-inch diameter sewer force main. The work is essential to extend the life of this key piece of sewer infrastructure.

Location and Scope of Work:

  • The project will take place from the Worcester Road Sewer Pump Station (730 Worcester Road) to the edge of Main Street near the intersection with Walnut Street.
  • Two access pits will be established: one at the Pump Station and the other on the shoulder of Main Street, near the intersection with Walnut Street.

Traffic Impacts:

  • All traffic impacts will involve one-lane alternating traffic on Main Street near Walnut Street.
  • There will be no traffic impacts on Route 9.
  • Police details will be present throughout the construction to help manage traffic flow.
  • Delays are expected, especially during peak hours. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and plan extra travel time.

Updated Construction Schedule:

  • Monday, 7/21: Open access pit on Main Street; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 7/22: Open access pit at the Worcester Road Pump Station; no traffic impacts.
  • Thursday, 7/24: Dewatering, cleaning, and CCTV inspection; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 7/25: Reserved as a weather contingency day.
  • Monday, 7/28: Mobilization and pre-CCTV inspection; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday–Wednesday, 7/29–7/30: Sewer liner installation, curing, and final dewatering; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., including overnight work from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Thursday, 7/31: Installation of Weko seals and pressure testing; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 8/1: Cleanup and demobilization; one-lane alternating traffic from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Community Impact:

  • Traffic delays are expected due to the lane reductions on Main Street.
  • Night work on July 29–30 will help reduce daytime disruptions.
  • Residents and commuters are encouraged to allow extra time for travel or use alternate routes when possible.
