Firefighter Injured in Early Morning Framingham Fire
FRAMINGHAM - Framingham Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 203 Bishop Drive at 3:45 a.m.,
The response was a single-alarm assignment, including Framingham Fire Engine 5, Engine 3, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, and Car 2.
While enroute, Framingham Police reported heavy smoke in the area. Upon arrival, Fire Car 2 declared a working fire, prompting additional resources: Engine 1 as the Rapid Intervention Team, Ambulance 1 and 3, and Framingham Station 3 for EMS support.
Framingham Police also began knocking on doors to notify and evacuate nearby residents.
Engine 5 arrived first and pulled an attack line, making an aggressive interior push to extinguish the fire, said Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher.
Rescue 1 conducted a primary search, Ladder 3 performed vertical ventilation, and Engine 3 established a water supply from a hydrant and advanced a backup line into the structure, said the Fire Chief.
The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by Group 4 crews.
The affected condo unit was under renovation at the time. The cause of the fire was determined to be spontaneous combustion of oily rags and has been ruled accidental, according to Fire Chief Dutcher.
One resident in an adjoining unit was displaced.
One firefighter was transported to MetroWest Medical Center for heat exhaustion. He has since been treated and released, said the Fire Chief.
“This was a great, quick stop by Group 4,” said Chief Dutcher. “Their coordinated response prevented further damage and ensured resident safety.”
The incident remains under review by the department’s Fire Investigation Unit.
Estimated damage was $70,000, said the Fire Chief.
