City of Framingham Launches Community Survey for Future Community Center Vision

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham is excited to announce the launch of a community survey to gather feedback from residents on their vision for a future city-wide community center.

The survey will be available online and will remain open through Labor Day weekend.

The results of the survey will play a crucial role in shaping the planning of the community center, especially as it will help guide the decisions of the Mayor's Community Center Advisory Committee and the architect involved in the project.

The future community center will be housed in the former Marian High School building, purchased by the Sisitsky administration in the fall of 2023 using federal ARPA funds.

The 4-story building, with 100,000 square feet of space, includes key amenities such as a basketball court and a theater, making it an ideal location for a range of community activities and services.

“This community center is an initiative that will serve as a gathering place for people of all ages in Framingham,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “We are committed to creating a space that reflects the diverse needs of our community, and the input we receive from this survey will be invaluable as we move forward in planning this important project."

City of Framingham Chief Operating Officer Michael Tusino emphasized the city's dedication to community engagement: “This is a unique opportunity for Framingham residents to directly influence the vision and design of a community center that will serve generations to come.” Tusino is chair of the Mayor’s Community Center Advisory Committee.

Jesse Edwards, the City's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer, highlighted the importance of inclusivity: “This community center is an opportunity to create a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive space for all members of Framingham. It’s crucial that the vision for this center represents the diversity of our community, and I encourage everyone to share their ideas and help us shape a space that is truly reflective of our collective needs.” Edwards is the vice chair of the Community Center Advisory Committee.

A subcommittee of the Community Center Advisory Committee which included Andrea Dunne Adrian, Tania Calder, and Chris Duane worked with City of Framingham Public Information Officer Susan Scully Petroni to create the survey.

The full 25-member Community Center Advisory Committee then reviewed each question and voted to release the survey April 1.

“We are excited to hear from as many residents as possible and ensure that their voices are heard in this process,” said Petroni.
