Celebrate Framingham’s Firefighter History on April 4

FRAMINGHAM - On April 4th, 1853, the Town of Framingham officially established the Framingham Fire Department with the Governor’s Act to Authorize a Fire Department.

On April 4th, 2025, we invite the community to come together and celebrate this milestone in Framingham’s history with a special event marking the 172nd anniversary of the department.

The event, hosted by the Framingham Fire Department in partnership with the Framingham History Center, the City of Framingham, and the 325th Anniversary Celebration Committee, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at Historic Village Hall on the Common. This free and family-friendly special pop-up one-day event will feature a variety of activities, including:

  • An artifact exhibition showcasing the rich history of Framingham’s fire service.
  • A chance to explore vintage and in-service fire trucks.
  • Opportunities to meet and interact with local firefighters.

“We are proud to celebrate the founding of the Framingham Fire Department and honor the service and sacrifice of our firefighters throughout history,” said Framingham Fire Chief Dutcher. “I am incredibly grateful to Anna, her team, and especially Mark Galluzzo for their meticulous research, combing through old log books and photographs to uncover the department’s founding date. The collaboration between the Framingham History Center and our Fire Department has been invaluable, and this celebration is a testament to their dedication.”

“The opportunity to collaborate with the Fire Department on this celebration has been incredibly rewarding. It is vital to recognize the history of such a crucial part of our community, and we are excited to share these stories and artifacts with the public,” said Anna Tucker, the executive director of the Framingham History Center.

“Framingham’s Fire Department has stood as a pillar of strength and service for nearly 175 years,” said Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “The exhibit celebrates the unwavering dedication, courage, and selflessness of those who have risked everything to protect our community. It’s a profound honor to join in recognizing this remarkable milestone, reflecting on the legacy that continues to shape our town’s history and safety for generations to come.”

Remarks will be given by Mayor Sisitsky and Fire Chief Dutcher, who will speak on the significance of this milestone and the importance of the Framingham Fire Department’s ongoing commitment to serving the community.

Come celebrate the history, heritage, and future of the Framingham Fire Department, and learn more about the men and women who have served and continue to protect our community.
