City of Framingham Advertising For Residents To Join the 325th Celebration Committee

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham is advertising for seven residents to join the City of Framingham 325th Celebration Committee.

Framingham was incorporated in 1700. In 2018, the largest Town in the Commonwealth became the newest City in the Commonwealth. In 2025, the City of Framingham will celebrate its 325th anniversary.

Earlier this month, Mayor Charlie Sisitsky signed an Executive Order to create a 19-member City of Framingham 325th Celebration Committee.

The Committee will develop a comprehensive plan for the anniversary celebrations, incorporating monthly events throughout the calendar year 2025.

While some events will be hosted by the City of Framingham, many will be co-hosted with the City of Framingham.

The Committee will work collaboratively with various City departments, including the Callahan Center, the Framingham Public Library, Framingham Public Schools, and other City Boards, Committees, and Commissions, as well as local organizations to facilitate additional events.

The planned events will encompass historical, cultural, artistic, educational, and special themes, ensuring they reflect the rich diversity of the City of Framingham.

The City, starting this week, will solicit event ideas from organizations and City departments, via a form on its website.

The Mayor’s Executive Order names specific members to the Committee but also calls for the Mayor to appoint 7 additional residents to the Committee based on applications submitted over a 14-day period, without approval of the legislative branch of government.

There are also 5 ex-officio, non-voting, non-resident members on the Committee including the Superintendent of Schools, Director of the Framingham Public Library, and the Director of Danforth Art.

Interested individual should fill out the application at this link: Form Center • Boards, Committees, Commission, Officers Appli (framinghamma.gov)

Applying does not guarantee an appointment.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

The first meeting of the Committee will be in December 2024. The Committee is expected to meet at least twice a month, possibly weekly.

The Mayor will appoint the leadership of the Committee,
