Welding, Cutting & Hot Work Permits

Before starting any welding, cutting, or other hot work activity, a permit must be obtained from the Fire Department, as specified in Section 1.05, Table 1.12.8.23 of the Massachusetts State Fire Code.

To apply by mail, please complete the standard application form as well as the authorization form at the following links:

  1. Form FP-6, Massachusetts standard application for Fire Department permit (PDF)
  2. Framingham Welding and Cutting Authorization Form (PDF)

Once complete, send the above forms along with your Hot Work Certifications* and a $25 check (made payable to the City of Framingham) to:

* Important Note on Hot Work Certifications

Effective January 2025, the Framingham Fire Department will be enforcing a three-year renewal requirement for Hot Work Safety Training Certificates. This aligns with NFPA 51B and helps ensure that individuals stay up-to-date on the latest safety protocols.
