Social Services / Outreach

The focus of the Social Services Department is to enable residents of Framingham 55 and older to live independently. We accomplish this by promoting healthy behaviors and social connections with others. We serve as an advocate for senior issues in the larger community and encourage seniors to access a variety of services.

Services include but are not limited to:

  • Information and referral to a broad range of resources for seniors
  • Additional financial resources for those on a fixed income, or in crisis
  • Advice regarding Alzheimer's and other dementias
  • Approval of subsidy for local taxi service in limited circumstances
  • Approval of subsidy for taxi service to locations beyond Framingham, as funding allows
  • Application assistance re: SNAP, Low Income Heat & Energy Program, RIDE, etc.
  • Brief, one-to-one supportive counseling and/or consultations with family members
  • Clutter clearing support group on a periodic basis
  • Designated reporter of elder abuse/self-neglect situations
  • Free frozen meals and toiletries or cleaning supplies in emergency situations (delivery may be possible in some circumstances)
  • Housing options: downsizing, assisted living, long-term care, subsidized, etc.
  • Free medical equipment loan program, call ahead for availability
  • Volunteer services such as friendly visiting, as available
