City of Framingham Adjusts Holiday Festivities Due to Extreme Cold Forecast/Block Party Cancelled

FRAMINGHAM- Due to the potential for extreme cold temperatures on Friday night, December 5, the City of Framingham has adjusted its planned holiday festivities to prioritize the safety and comfort of attendees and volunteers.

The City’s Holiday Block Party, including free hot cocoa, popcorn, cookies, the bookmobile, and a Scout sing-a-long, has been cancelled. In addition, the story walk with local author Megan Litwin has also been cancelled.

The City still will hold its 34^th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony with Santa and Mayor Charlie Sisitsky at 6:30 p.m. outside the Memorial Building. The tree lighting will be shown live on the City of Framingham’s Facebook page. It will be a quick 10-minute or less ceremony.

The 35-foot Norway spruce was generously donated by Kevin and Cheryl Nelson and William Lytte of Bradford Road.

Those who choose to attend the tree lighting are encouraged to stay in downtown Framingham after the tree lighting ceremony to enjoy local restaurants and shop at Framingham’s many small businesses during the holiday season. Union Avenue will be open to traffic on Friday night, as the block party has been cancelled.
