Repairs, Replacements, and Disconnections

Work in the public right-of-way can only be conducted between April 1 - November 15. 
However, work outside this time frame may be authorized at the discretion of the Department of Public Works. 

Repairs, replacements, and disconnections conducted on a private way or on a state-owned road are subject to inspection by the City's Municipal Engineering Program and must comply with the City of Framingham DPW Construction Standards.

Repairs, Replacements, and Disconnections: 

Repairs, replacements, and disconnections DO NOT REQUIRE a set of design plans signed and stamped by a Massachusetts Registered Professional Engineer. All work must comply with the City of Framingham DPW Construction Standards. Please follow the procedures listed below.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL Activities INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Repair or replacement of an existing domestic water service line
  • Repair or replacement of an existing fire water service line
  • Repair or replacement of an existing wastewater (sewer) service line
  • Repair or replacement of an existing private fire hydrant
  • Disconnecting (cutting and capping) water and/or sewer services 

Procedures:

  1. If you are a new contractor or have worked with the City of Framingham before, please reference the bond and insurance requirements
  2. Contractors performing work on all public or private water, sewer, or drainage infrastructure must be a Licensed Drainlayer with the City of Framingham. To become a Licensed Drainlayer follow the process listed here.
  3. Submit a Trench Opening Permit, as required
  4. Submit a Street Opening Permit, as required

INSPECTION

For repairs, replacements, and disconnections, once you receive an approved Trench Opening Permit and/or Street Opening Permit, please notify the DPW Inspectors at 508-532-6010 at least 48 hours before starting work.
