Framingham Mayor Names Dellasanta Interim Library Director

FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky today, January 24, named Assistant Framingham Public Library Director Dawn Dellasanta as Interim Library Director.

The Framingham Public Library Trustees on Monday January 8, unanimously voted to recommend Dellasanta be interim library director. Per the City Charter, the Trustees make a recommendation to the Mayor, with the Mayor having the ultimate decision. The appointment, per the Charter, does not need to go before the City Council, the legislative branch of government in the City of Framingham.

The Trustees have already begun a search for a new library director, with the resignation of Lena Kilburn, effective January 19, 2024

“Having served as Assistant Director and head of the branch, I have confidence Dawn will continue to oversee the libraries and provide top-notch services to its patrons. Dawn's dedication to the library system has been evident. She has been an integral part of the team and has consistently demonstrated her ability to manage and lead staff members. Her extensive experience and knowledge of library operations have been critical in ensuring that the libraries are always up-to-date with the latest technology and resources,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.

"I am deeply honored to be named Interim Library Director. I am committed to upholding the high standards set by my predecessor and the Trustees, ensuring that our libraries continue to be vibrant hubs of knowledge, innovation, and community engagement. The Framingham Public Library holds a special place in my heart, and I look forward to leading our team for as long as it takes to name a permanent director. I extend my gratitude to Mayor Sisitsky and the Board of Trustees for their confidence in me," said Delasanta.

In 2012, Dellasanta started as an adult library page in the Framingham Public Library.

She has worked in almost every department over the last dozen years.

A United States Marine, honorably discharged in 1999, Dellasanta has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University and completed her Masters in Library and Information Science, with a concentration in technology from Simmons University in 2023.

She was named Assistant Director of the Framingham Public Libraries in 2023, and served as Head of Branch Experience from 2021-23. She served as Head of Library Technology from 2018-2022.

As head of the branch experience, Dellasanta served as liaison between the library and community organizations, fostering partnerships and promoting library services.

As head of library technologies, she led the research, evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, which included the adoption of borrowing WiFi hotspots and the circulation of Chromebooks for library patrons.

As assistant library director, Dellasanta managed the day-to-day operations of the library, including scheduling, payroll, working with the Library Trustees, and numerous stakeholders and community partners. She has supervised and managed staff, and work on professional development opportunities.

She has worked with other City departments, including my office, to develop and implement cross-departmental initiatives and projects. One example, as a Marine and library employee, she was instrumental in bringing back the monthly Veterans coffee hour at the Christa McAuliffe Library branch.
