Mayor Sisitsky Thanks Framingham Community For Generous Support of Asylum-Seeking Families
FRAMINGHAM – On Friday, Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher and Assistant Fire Chief John Schultz delivered two truck beds full of donations to the asylum-seeking families and Jewish Family Service of MetroWest.
Framingham-based non-profit organization Jewish Family Service is coordinating services for these roughly 40 individuals housed at a Framingham hotel, since last weekend.
“The support from the Framingham community has been extremely generous and overwhelming,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.
The two Framingham Fire Stations – at 10 Loring Drive and 75 A Street – will continue to accept donation this weekend ONLY.
Drop off is between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Please do not drop off at other times.
Items needed are:
- Cases/packs of bottled water
- Cases of shelf-stable juice
- Pedialyte
- Shelf stable milk and/or powdered milk
- Baby Wipes
- Diapers (Size 4)
- Pull ups (Size 4-5)
- NEW socks and underwear in all sizes (toddler, child and adult)
Please do not drop off other items, only those listed.
Items dropped off may help asylum-seeking families throughout MetroWest, and not just the families in Framingham.
Last night, more asylum-seeking families from Haiti were placed in a hotel in Southborough. There are already scores of asylum-seeking families in Marlborough, Westborough, and Northborough in MetroWest.
“The Framingham community has been amazingly generous and incredibly supportive with this initiative and I would like to thank everyone who has dropped off items for these families,” said Mayor Sisitsky.
“By the time we dropped off the two truck-loads of donations today, we had another truck load waiting for us at the station,” said Assistant Fire Chief Schultz on Friday afternoon.
Due to the generosity of the Framingham Community, Mayor Sisitsky has authorized Jewish Family Service to help other asylum-seeking families in need in MetroWest with the donations.
“Community borders do not matter - humanity does,” said Mayor Sisitsky.
Community members can also make a donation to Jewish Family Service, a 50C13 organization so needed items can be purchased for the asylum-seeking families from Haiti.
