The City of Framingham Awarded a $200,000 Green Communities Grant

To Fund Energy Conservation Measures

Framingham, MA - Through Framingham’s Department of Capital Projects and Facilities Management, the City has been awarded a $200,000 Green Communities Competitive Grant. The Grant will fund eight energy conservation measures at four schools, including HVAC unit improvements, refrigeration enhancements, and steam system upgrades.

Projects completed through the Grant are expected to save almost 250,000 kWh of electricity and 9,100 therms of natural gas per year, amounting to annual reductions of over $53,840 in annual cost savings. In addition, the completed projects are anticipated to eliminate 135 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, which is comparable to the emissions released from consuming of 15,191 gallons of gasoline or burning 148,751 pounds of coal.

Building off the facility upgrades made with the 2019 Green Communities Competitive Grant, the City expects these projects to provide maintenance and performance improvements across HVAC and kitchen equipment in Barbieri Elementary School, Cameron Middle School, Framingham High School, and Walsh Middle School.
