Get Involved
OVERVIEW
The program established Lead and Assistant Stewards for each of the 6 largest parcels of conservation land in Framingham:
- Carol Getchell Nature Trail
- Cochituate Brook Reservation
- Macomber Reservation
- Morency Woods
- Nobscot Park
- Spring Lane
- Wittenborg Woods
Stewards are responsible for monitoring the trails and surrounding land, and promoting improvements, as needed. The program also established several opportunities for policy-oriented volunteer options.
LEAD & ASSISTANT STEWARDS (FIELD WORK)
- Adopt an individual parcel of conservation land
- Act as the eyes and ears of the commission
- Note management needs and opportunities
- Assist with planning work days (for trail clearing, new trails, cleanups, etc.)
COORDINATORS OF STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITIES (EMAIL WORK)
- Notify volunteer network of upcoming work days
- Help potential volunteers connect with on-going efforts or identify new conservation projects
There are many short-term and specialty volunteer opportunities available and we are always looking for new partners, ideas and connections.
WRITE NEWSPAPER ARTICLES
Contribute articles about conservation-related issues to local newspapers.
LEAD NATURE WALKS
If you know about birds, amphibians, wildflowers, invasive species, etc., consider leading a walk for other residents of Framingham.
PARTICIPATE IN A RIVER OR TRAIL CLEANUP
Join up with other groups that sponsor periodic cleanups.
UNDERTAKE CARPENTRY PROJECTS
- Make trail head signs
- Make trail map holders for each trail head
STENCIL STORM DRAINS
Help educate residents that nothing but rain water should go down our storm drains, as they all drain to our wetlands, streams, and rivers.
