Edgell Road Water Pump Station Replacement

Project Overview

The Edgell Road Water Pump Station was constructed in 1950. The station pumps water from the MetroWest Tunnel, owned by the MWRA, to the City Pressure Zone. The distribution piping in the system directs the majority of the flow to the Indian Head storage tank. The average daily flow from the pump station is approximately 2.5 million gallons per day.

An alternative analysis was conducted in 2018. The analysis evaluated whether to rehabilitate the existing station or demolish and rebuild a new station on the site. Given the age of the building and equipment, and the effort required to bring the existing conditions up to code, it was determined that demolition and rebuilding was the best option.

Construction is underway. Most impacts will be minimal as work is confined to the station site.

Project Update - March/April 2022

The pump station's walls, roof, windows, doors, plumbing, HVAC, and pumps were successfully installed over the winter. The station is expected to be completed entirely by the end of June 2022.
