Fair Housing Committee
The Fair Housing Committee's mission is to educate the community and residents on matters of fair housing. It accomplishes its mission by promoting access to decent, safe, and affordable housing for all segments of the community and through the study of issues, public education, and advocacy.
Membership
The committee comprises of 13 members. Four are ex-officio appointments and represent the Human Relations Commission, the Community and Economic Development Department, the Planning Board and the Framingham Housing Authority. The nine other members are broadly representative of segments of the community, active and interested in the housing market.

What is Fair Housing?
The laws protect consumers when they are looking to buy or rent property. It is illegal to discriminate against anyone on the basis of:
- Age
- Ancestry
- Disability
- Family size
- Gender
- Genetic information
- Marital status
- National origin
- Race
- Religion
- Sexual orientation
- Status as recipient of federal, state, or local public assistance or beneficiary of federal, state, or local housing subsidies
- Veteran status

Private, State, & Federal Resources
The Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston advocates for victims of housing discrimination. It assists with filing complaints with various agencies, and in some cases, as an advocate on complainants' behalf.

The Office of the Attorney General enforces the Fair Housing Act, also known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act. Through its enforcement powers, it ensures that individuals and families are able to seek and secure the housing of their choice.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is a federal agency that receives and investigates housing discrimination complaints. It determines violations of federal law. Complaints to HUD must be filed within one year of the most recent violation.
