Statement by Framingham Town Manager, Robert Halpin
January 26, 2017
Framingham, MA - Earlier today the Middlesex County Grand Jury returned indictments in the alleged theft of seized cash from the evidence room at the Framingham Police Department, charging former Framingham Police Officer Alan Dubeshter with one (1) count of Larceny Over $250.00 and one (1) count of Unwarranted Privilege. Alan Dubeshter will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court at a later date.
The Framingham Police Department discovered the theft and immediately notified the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, as well as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. Officer Dubeshter was immediately placed on administrative leave and has since resigned from his position with the Framingham Police Department.
A criminal investigation was initiated; and two independent audits were conducted. As a result of the investigation and audits, it was determined that the theft was limited to seized cash.
The Framingham Police Department has performed a complete review of the policies and procedures relative to the maintenance and processing of evidence and has instituted additional measures to ensure accountability and safe guard of all evidence.
As the Town Manager, I am relieved that the investigative phase of this incident has reached its conclusion. In light of the pending charges and judicial process that will now take place, the Town will not comment on the specifics of the case itself.
